PALEFACE is an American musician, artist and founding member of NYC’s Antifolk (NYC Neo-folk) movement. Paleface’s musical journey kicked into gear when he befriended quirky songwriter Daniel Johnston, who inspired him and showed him a new way to write songs. Paleface was soon discovered at an NYC Antifolk open mic by Danny Fields (The Stooges, The Ramones, MC5), and became the first artist out of the scene to get signed by a major label (Polydor Records), followed by college radio hits and tours with the likes of Billy Bragg and The Breeders. He has since released over a dozen records, including another major label release in the mid 90’s (Sire Records). Paleface has influenced artists such as Kimya Dawson and Beck who called Paleface “A great songwriter, a generous friend, and a big influence on my early stuff”, (American Music-Annie Leibovitz). During the late 90’s PALEFACE nearly died from alcohol abuse, but after a long period of recovery and cleansing PF returned to the Antifolk scene and befriended a new breed of artist (The Moldy Peaches, Regina Spektor, and Langhorne Slim among many others). He became a major source of influence and inspiration to many of them. At around this time Paleface also befriended The Avett Brothers and his songwriting, vocals, and/or instrumentation have been featured on three of The Avett’s records. These days Paleface is on a ongoing National tour with darling drummer Monica “Mo” Samalot in support of their 2009 Ramseur Records debut The Show Is On The Road, which also features guest performances by The Avetts. The duo has been performing at venues and festivals across the country, charming audiences with their dynamic & high-energy performances, honest & refreshing lyrics and their raw yet full sound. “The Show Is On The Road…songs you’d be glad to hum for the rest of the day” PASTE.
