The Black Angels
Bland Design is a design collective based in Austin, Texas. The studio was founded in the summer of 2004 when Christian Bland, a member of The Black Angels, graduated from the University of Texas. The idea was to resurrect the spirit of the The Electric Grandmother & the Vulcan Gas Company through psychedelic art. After all, Austin, TX was the birthplace of psychedelic music with the advent of the 13th Floor Elevators. Therefore in order to keep the spirit alive, Bland Design was born. Why psychedelic art? The word psychedelic is an English term coined from the Greek words for “soul,” (psyche), and “manifest,” (delos). Bland Design makes art for and from the soul in the quest for a new direction. Through experimentation, meditation, and collaboration, Bland Design has quickly spread its name and style internationally. Each project Bland Design crafts, whether it be designing a new logo, album artwork, or a screen printed poster, results in transcendent communication through psychedelic art.
